THEORETICAL EXPLANATION OF OBSERVED DECREASING FAILURE RATE

Abstract

In this report, it is shown theoretically why a life distribution would under certain circumstances exhibit a decreasing failure rate. A new test is applied for monotonicity of failure rate to some observed life test data to verify that the life distribution does exhibit the decreasing failure rate expected under the circumstances.
