DEVELOPMENT OF MILLIMETER WAVE MASER

Abstract

Ma er material for an amplifier operating near 70 kmc has been selected to be iron ion Fe3+ in a host crystalline structure of TiO2 (rutile). This selecti n was made on the basis of the desirable paramagnetic, mechanical, and electrical properties of rutile. The pin Hamiltonian which describes the splitting of the energy levels in an applied magnetic field was solved using a previous co puter program, and this allowed the selection o several likely operating points from which to begin the experimentation. a preliminary tudy f possible broadbanding techniques applicable to this program as initiated during this period. This portion of the program will be concerned with broadband microwave techniques which may be applied to the 70 Kmc maser, and possibly to isolator material st dies. (Auth r)
