PRELIMINARY DEVELOPMENT AND TESTS OF A BLAST-CLOSURE VALVE

Abstract

The ventilation systems of shelters providing blast protection must have automatic valves to prevent ingress of damaging pressure waves through the air ducts. This report discusses a 600-cfm blast-actuated closure valve developed for overpressure up to 100 psi. A series of air-flow and blast tests were performed which show that the valve has the potential to satisfy ALL OF THE DESIRABLE CRITERIA BUT REQUIRES FURTHER DEVELOPMENT.
