LONG RANGE SEISMIC MEASUREMENTS. MAD

Abstract

A long range seismic measurements (LRSM) program was established under VELA-UNIFORM Project 8.4 to record and analyze short-period and longperiod seismic data from a planned series of U.S. underground nuclear tests. These, and other data, will be used by VELA-UNIFORM participants for studying and developing methods for distinguishing between explosive and earthquake sources. The purpose is to provide an analysis of the LRSM film seismograms from 40 mobile field teams, from the Wichita Mountains Seismological Observatory (WMO), Oklahoma, and from several experimental or temporary stations operated in connection with existing AFTAC commitments.
