THE INFLUENCE OF AERODYNAMICS IN WIND POWER DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

After a brief account of the recent history of windmills the paper deals with the characteristics of the wind as a source of power and outlines the methods of obtaining and analysing wind data as a basis for assessment of the economic potentialities of wind power utilization. The selection of favourable sites for wind power installations is then discussed, and this subject is followed by notes on the design and performance of windmills of different types and sizes under various conditions of use. The utilization of wind-generated energy and the needs for research and development along specified lines are reported. A list of 47 references is given. (Author)
