A NEW SERIES OF ORGANOBORANES. I. THE CHLORI-NATION OF 11,12-DICARBADODECABORANE

Abstract

A detailed investigation of the chlorination of a new series of organoboranes derived from decaborane-14 resulted in the stepwise formation of a number of chlorocarboranes containing from two to eleven chlorine atoms per molecule. Some of their chemical characteristics are described; a detailed B11 NMR treatment of the parent carborane (B10H10C2H2), B10Cl10C2H2 and B10Cl10C2HCl as related to structural considerations is presented.
