SYSTEM ANALYSIS OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC AIR TRAFFIC COMPLEX

Abstract

This report contains a detailed analysis of the North Atla tic ir T RAFFIC Control System. Emphasis is placed upo th effec s on sy t m performance of potential modifications in navigation, communications, w t er for ca ing aircraf characteri tics, control procedures nd separation tandard . Mathematical models re developed and applied to operatio al data. e models provi e r li tic repres ntations of the significant functional characteristics of the basic system areas. The report includes a description of the prese t syste . The relationships between separation standards and other system ar as re develope with emp sis on comparative valuations of alternate sy tem configurations. Sys em perfor nce is measured in terms of tr ffic capacity an econ ic penalties impo ed by air traffic control restrictions. The effects of v rious sys em modifications are then determined. Although emphasis is placed on subsonic jet aircraft operations over the North Atlantic, a brief discussion of ot er environm nts is also giv . (Author)
