INDEXING AIDS

Abstract

Classification schedules, alphabetical vocabularies, and concept-association lists are analyzed from the viewpoint of their utility in coordinate indexing as aids prescribing invariable relationships and suggesting variable relationships among indexing terms. Look-up and feedback devices are considered in relation to the indexer consistency. A research methodology for testing the effect of indexing aids on the reliabiliy of indexers is outlined. (Author)
