MULTIPLE TAPPED PHOTOELASTIC DELAY LINE

Abstract

An optical technique for detecting an acoustic signal in a glass ultrasonic delay line is described. A useful model with a system bandwidth of 10 mc centered at 15 mc, a signal-tonoise ratio exceeding 20 db and five independent outputs separated one from another by 0.1 usec was constructed and is described herein. Using a model with these characteristics, it is possible to determine both the advantages and the feasibility of ultimately producing a multiple tapped delay line with as many as 1000 taps.
