ORGANO SILYLETHYLENEDIAMINE COMPOUNDS III. STRUCTURAL INVESTIGATIONS ON ARGANOSILYLETHYLENE-DIAMINE POLYMERS

Abstract

The polymers which are formed by the reaction of ethylenediamine and dimethyldichlorosilane are investigated by NMR methods. It is shown that these polymers consist of a mixture of linear and cyclic units. By heating the polymers to about 300 C by reaction with Me3SiCl, polymers of the pure cyclic species are obtained. By reaction with ethylenediamine, polymers with a higher ratio of the linear component are formed. It is not possible to obtain a pure linear polymer even by reaction with an excess of ethylene diamine.
