DEVELOPMENT OF S-BAND AND X-BAND POWER GENERATORS

Abstract

The entire S- and X-band power generators development program is covered. Program objectives were to design, develop, build and deliver three feasibility-demonstration models of: (1) all-solid-state S-band (2.25 gc), 2-watt power generators, and (2) all-solid-state X-band (9 gc), 200 mw power generators. An evaluation was made of the S- and X-band power generators requirements and a varactor theory review. Both the direct and indirect methods of cw power generation were evaluated for application to the program resulting in the determination that the indirect method would be used. The varactor review culminated in the selection of the approach and the initiation of a basic design based on program requirements and state-of-theart solid-state components. The temperature and power requirements were satisfied using silicon transistors and linearly-graded silicon varactors. (Author)
