DEVELOPMENT OF EXPERIMENTAL STRESS ANALYSIS METHODS TO DETERMINE STRESSES AND STRAINS IN SOLID PROPELLANT GRAINS. RECENT ADVANCES IN THE APPLICATION OF PHOTOELASTICITY IN THE MISSILE INDUSTRY

Abstract

This paper deals with several applications of photoelasticity to the stress analysis of rocket propellant grains. The applications include two-and three-dimensional model analyses, and they refer to grains loaded by pressure and by temperature. The paper also includes some applications to the optimization of fillet contours and to the redesign of case joints. (Author-PL).
