RESEARCH IN FLUORO-NITRO COMPOUNDS

Abstract

The reaction of acetone, difluoramine, and sulfuric acid has apparently produced 2,2-bis(difluoramino)propane in high yield. N,N- Difluoromethylamine was obtained in the direct fluorination of aqueous N,N'-dimethylurea. Aqueous cyanamide underwent direct fluorination to give several products possessing oxidizing properties. One product of this reaction was identified as N,N-difluorourea. The fluorinations of nitramide, ammonium nitrourethane, and potassium nitrocarbamate were screened. The reaction of sodium 2-propanenitronate with tetrafluorohydrazine in the presence of sodium nitrite yielded 2,2-dinitropropane, as well as 2,3-dimethylbutane. 2,2-Dinitro-2-fluoroethanol, sodium methoxide, and tetrafluorohydrazine did not yield an N-F compound. The sodium salt of 1,1-dinitropropane appeared to react normally with tetrafluorohydrazine. 2,2-Dinitro-2-fluoroethyl acrylate and bis-2,2-dinitro-2-fluorethyl acetal were synthesized. (Author)
