Project ARTEMIS. High Power Acoustic Source

Abstract

This report describes the installation of a high power acoustic source on the modified T-2 type U. S. Navy tanker. Photographs of the ship installation as well as the ship modification are included to show location of equipment and the extent of the modifications. The facility was designed to provide a mobile high power source of acoustic energy in the frequency range between 350 and 450 c at an acoustic power of 1000 kw. Ship facilities will permit lowering the transducer to a depth of 1200 feet. Provisions were made which will permit fixing the transducer to the ocean bottom at a later date.
