PASSIVE SEEKER FOR SURVEILLANCE DRONE

Abstract

Research was concerned with microwave passive homing equipment for guiding army surveillance drones to enemy ground based jammers. Development of the AN/DPN-64 homing set radar included: (1) design of the system to operate with the AN/UPW-1 drone control system, (2) redesign and modification of the system due to nondelivery of the AN/UPW-1, to operate with the existing SD-1 ARW/66 drone control system, (3) modification of ten SD-1 airframes for system installation, (4) construction of five systems, (5) computer simulation for autopilot configuration, and (6) installation and checkout of the five systems in the SD-1 drone. Prior to installation in a drone, one system was installed on a Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft and a captive flight test was completed. This test provided a flight test under controlled conditions resulting in autopilot improvements and a check of system accuracy and capabilities. (Author)
