MARK 37 TORPEDO STUDY

Abstract

A circular slide rule was developed which used as input the bearing rate of the target and which supplied as output the direction of fire for each of the 3 Mark 37 torpedoes. The 3 torpedoes were identified as the after torpedo (1), fired at time zero, the mid torpedo (2), fired at time zero plus 30 sec, and the forward torpedo (3), fired at time zero plus 60 sec. The bearing rate was considered to have been measured at time zero. A study was carried out to determine how well the circular slide rule specified the firing angles with respect to a kill by at least one of the 3 torpedoes. (Author)
