CHARACTERISTICS OF BQS-6, ATF BEARIN DATA PERTINENT TO STATISTICAL FIRE CONTROL SOLUTIONS (U)

Abstract

BQS-6 sonar bearings were collected and analyzed to obtain the characteristics (standard deviation and correlation time) important to statistical fire control solutions. Statistical techniques, which greatly simplified data collection and reduction, were used to obtain the bearing errors; this approach provides only the high frequency components of the errors. It is shown that the observed correlation times impose severe limitations on statistical fire control capabilities. It is also shown that the correlation times can, almost entirely, be attributed to the ATF loop characteristics and that it is possible to reduce the correlation times by modifying the ATF loop.
