Delayed Repeater Satellite Communication System, Project Courier

Abstract

It is concluded that the ratio of the maximum to minimum response of the fin antenna, when operated in conjunction with an orthogonally polarized terminal is approximately 8.7 db. Due to the lack of a reference gain antenna, an exact relationship comparing observed levels with isotropic level was not established. It is estimated that the range of levels observed corresponded to =4 db with respect to isotropic. It is also concluded that the fin antenna employed in these measurements does not match a 50 ohm system. Accordingly, additional work to improve the VSWR of the antenna must be implemented before the design is suitable for Courier use.
