OPERATIONAL EVALUATION OF RADIO TRANSMITTING SET AN/MRT-4 USED AGAINST DRONE RP-71

Abstract

Radio Transmitting Set AN/MRT-4 was operationally evaluated to determine its usefulness as a jammer employed against Drone RP-71. The AN/MRT-4 is a mobile, swept CW jammer of a nominal output of 1,000 w, capable of amplitude modulation by audio noise, step tones, variable tone, random keying, and video noise on a swept carrier. The frequency coverage is 75 to 240 mc. Drone RP-71 is a radio-controlled monoplane used to penetrate enemy territory to obtain photographs or televise information. It was found that the AN/MRT-4 can jam the drone at operational ranges from 20 to 80 miles, depending on the distance from the drone to its control transmitter, but under lineof-sight conditions only.
