Heat of Formation of Li3AlH6

Abstract

The heat of formation of a material, Li3AlH6, has been determined by measuring the heats of reaction of aluminum, lithium, and Li3AlH6 in 4 N NCl at 25 C in a closed bomb. The heats of solution were found to be: Aluminum, -128.14 = 0.39; Lithium, -67.05 = 0.53; and Li3AlH6, -249.90 = 1.47. From this data, the heat of formation of Li3AlH6 was calculated to be delta Hf298 Li3AlH6 -79.4 = 3. 4 kcal/mole.
