THE THERMAL SENSITIVITY OF NF COMPOUNDS,

Abstract

Thermal sensitivity measurements were made on four pairs of bis(difluoroamino) isomers. At short delay times, the vicinal isomers required higher temperatures for thermal initiation than the geminal isomers. The vicinal class showed the expected trend toward increasing sensitivity with increasing oxidant content, but the geminal class did not. Data are reported on a number of high energy liquids. Several were found to be somewhat less sensitive than nitroglycerine, although they are at least as energetic as nitroglycerine. Additional data are reported on a variety of compounds. The ability to work with volatile materials is demonstrated by a methane, which boils at 5 C. (Author)
