HYDROFOIL SONAR EQUIPMENT. VOLUME V

Abstract

This portion of the analysis of hydrofoil craft in Naval Operations is concerned with the operational characteristics, costs, and weights of that part of the payload of an ASW hydrofoil that is allocated to detection and localization of submarine targets by sonic means. A standard set of environmental conditions is established so that different types of sonar and different sizes of sonar sets of the same type can be compared quantitatively in terms of capability, cost, and weight. In addition, a set of operational models is developed with the objective of gaining insight into the best operational use of sonar by an ASW hydrofoil. (Author)
