V/STOL AIRCRAFT FOR AMPHIBIOUS WARFARE

Abstract

A study was made of a number of V/STOL vehicles designed for Amphibious Warfare and optimized on the basis of payload delivery rate and cost. Included also are amphibious hydrofoil craft, optimized for the assault and logistics transport mission. It is generally concluded that the tilt prop, fan-in-wing, and tilt wing vehicles provide the most effectiveness/cost of the vehicles considered for the assault and logistics transport mission and the close support transport mission. The amphibious hydrofoil craft indicate signicicant advantage in effectiveness/cost at radii less than 50 nautical miles. (Author)
