DEVELOPMENT OF THE SQUIB, ELECTRIC, WOX-3A

Abstract

A hermetically sealed, electrically initiated squib has been developed for the Thermal Battery WOX-72A. The nomenclature assigned is Squib, Electric, WOX-3A. The squib is approximately 0.350 in. long and 0.277 in. in diameter. The bridge resistance range is 1.4 to 1.8 ohms. The estimated energy for the 0.99 probability of firing by capacitor discharge is 52,000 ergs. Constant current measurements showed the calculated current for 0.99 probability of firing to be 720 milliamperes. The squib has successfully passed the standard Navy environmental and surveillance tests normally conducted on similar items. (Author)
