ENTERING BEARING RATES INTO BEARINGS ONLY TARGET MOTION ANALYSIS,

Abstract

In bearings only target motion analysis, it is assumed that a smoothing prefilter generates a sequence of contiguous linear fits to the raw bearings. It is shown in this memorandum how to enter the statistical content of both the smoothed bearing and the smoothed bearing rate from each smoothing span into the non-iterative normal equations for the target motion. Other modes of using bearing rates are also visualized but are not considered here. Appendix A presents a theoretical analysis of the bias in the target motion solution and of the effect of presmoothing. (Author)
