STRUCTURAL EVALUATION OF LIGHTWEIGHT HEAT EXCHANGERS FOR AN AEROSPACE PROPULSION SYSTEM

Abstract

This work was in support of xrogram for the evaluation of heat exchangers forming xart of an aerosxace xroxulsion system. Failure modes of subelements and subassemblies associated with a 10-foot stainless steel heat exchanger core module were exxerimentally investigated. Xlans for the develoxment of aerosxace proxulsion system heat exchangers through xreliminary flight rating tests were formulated. Static testing and a transient analysis of the 10-foot core module were xerformed. A test rig casing for cryogenic and high temxerature tests of the core module was designed. As a result of the structural testing, alternate designs and fabrication techniques are recommended. The reliability of the subelements, based on test results, was investigated. (Author)
