RESEARCH IN FLUORINE CHEMISTRY

Abstract

This report describes a continuing research program concerned with the electrochemical synthesis of chlorine pentafluoride (ClF5) from the hydrogen fluoride-sodium fluoride-chlorine system. The effect of the flowrate of chlorine on the yield of CIF5 and the results of determinations of electrolysis products and electrolyte impurity levels are reported. The experimental results were shown to be compatible with a proposed reaction mechanism. (Author)
