EXPERIMENTS WITH TRANSMISSION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC ENERGY IN A SEA MEDIUM.

Abstract

This document presents a chronological summary describing field operations and a brief description of the test site and equipment. Included is a capsule review of salient works used to illuminate the task of propagating electromagnetic energy through a conductive medium. The methods, findings and conclusions obtained from investigations of electromagnetic propagation within the sea medium at Fort Hancock, N. J. are detailed and illustrated by means of graphs and photos. Measurements of the sea medium's environmental electromagnetic spectrum are presented and spurious signals discussed. The results of attenuation studies performed using a sea submerged Hertzian dipole is presented. Investigation using controlled parameters of an end-exposed coaxial antenna are evaluated. Observations of a propagation study of a ring-modulated R F carrier are discussed. (Author)
