The Reaction of Fluorodinitromethyl Compounds with Alkali

Abstract

The reaction of 4,4-dinitro-4-fluorobutyric acid derivatives with aqueous alkali yields the corresponding derivative of 4-fluoro-4-nitro-2butenoic acid. This reaction is analogous to the elimination of the elements of nitrous acid from 4,4,4-trinitrobutyric acid derivatives to form the corresponding 4,4-dinitro-2-butenoic acid derivative. (Author)
