DESIGN INFORMATION FOR A NAVAL BHANGMETER

Abstract

The basic design features of the bhangmeter, an instrument for the recording of the yield of an air-burst nuclear explosion, are re-stated with special reference to the use of the most modern components, including a photo- sensitive detector of the semi-conductor 'solar' type. The essential performance characteristics are described, and suggestions made for test equipment so that they may be determined independently of any operational check. General principles of a circuit for the automatic compensation of variations in background illumination experienced by a ship-borne instrument are outlined.
