DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF WIGWAM TARGETS.

Abstract

A detailed description of the design and construction of three submersible structures, SQUAWS 12, 13, and 29, to be used as part of Operation Wigwam is presented. The structures were simplified submarine type hulls designed to be hung from salvage pontoons and raised and lowered from a YFNB by compressed air fed through salvage hose. A design, fabrication, and erection history is given, including inclining, trim testing, and preliminary operational tests with a YFNB. In addition the characteristics of the structures, such as curves of form, stability, and weight distribution, are shown. (Author)
