THE PREPARATION OF 2,2',6,6'-TETRANITROSTILBENE

Abstract

2,2',6,6'-Tetranitrostilbene, was prepared by the reaction of 2,6-dinitrobenzyl chloride with alkali. The compound melts at 290 degrees, 40 degrees higher than the melting point reported in the literature for a product to which the structure of the compound was assigned. The literature reported product has been shown to be 2,2',6,6'-tetranitrobibenzyl. (Author)
