SYNCHRONOUS FILTER STUDY

Abstract

The synchronous filters to be discussed here are basically bandpass filters whose bandpass characteristics are obtained by a combination of lowpass filters and modulation techniques employing semiconductor switches. The result is a bandpass filter whose bandwidth is determined by the lowpass filters and whose center frequency is determined by the frequency associated with the seiconductor switches. Desirable features of such a filter are (1) the shape of the bandpass characteristic and the center frequency can be independently controlled, (2) the overall Q can be made extremely high and (3) the circuit techniques are compatible with microelectronics. Undesirable features are (1) circuit complexity and (2) spurious responses. (Author)
