HUMAN FACTOR PROBLEMS IN ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE. OBSERVATIONS ON THE EVALUATION OF THE TRESI TARGET CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM.

Abstract

A variety of problems encountered in the technical evaluation of the TRESI semi-automatic target classification system is described. These problems fell into three main areas: (1) those associated with the representativeness of the recorded problem materials used to test TRESI; (2) those associated with the fidelity of the tape recording and playback system used to feed target signals to TRESI; and (3) those involved in the actual process of clue extraction by TRESI.
