STUDY OF THE OCEANOGRAPHY OF THE UPPER LAYER IN THE N.E. ATLANTIC. MILOC 64 DATA - PHASE A. PART I.

Abstract

The refined data collected in September 1964 during part of a joint oceanographic survey (MILOC 64) of the area of the N.E. Atlantic between OWS KILO (45 deg. N., 16 deg. W.) OWS JULIET (52.5 deg. N., 20 deg. W.) by five ships and two aircrzft are reported. The data presented in this first report of the series consist of simultaneous bathythermograph and meteorological measurements, a comparison of sea surface temperatures measured by bucket and by airborne radiation thermometers, and GEK measurements of ocean currents. The collected data are also compared, where applicable, with the information contained in the PASWEPS charts of approximately the same period prepared for NATO naval forces.
