ACOUSTIC DETECTION PREDICTION STUDIES. PART 4. TACTICAL USE OF A RAY TRACING PROGRAM SUBIC AT-SEA TEST NO. 1,

Abstract

Results are discussed of at-sea testing on board the USS DACE (SSN607) of a real-time, digital computer-display system as an aid to command decision. Ray trace pictures based on sound velocity profiles were obtained and found useful in predicting sonar conditions for the selection of listening depths. These ray traces also were an aid in passive tracking of targets. Signal-to-noise ratios as a function of time were measured and compared with the theoretical values calculated and displayed by the SUBIC computer-display system. (Author)
