DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW CLASS OF INERTIAL GUIDANCE SYSTEMS, THIRD PHASE.

Abstract

The latest phase of development of an inertial guidance system based on the conservation of linear momentum in a ball bouncing between parallel plates is described. In this phase, a method of driving the ball bounce impulsively, rather than by shaking, was achieved and developed for use with the inertial sensing system. An automatic servo mechanism to orient the bounce cell and other system components is under development as a laboratory inertial sensing system and its performance has been examined. The possible suitability of a completed system for naval applications is evaluated. (Author)
