Inorganic Halogen Oxidizers

Abstract

Preparative routes to new interhalogen compounds and their derivatives are being pursued. Initial approaches utilized discharge techniques to evaluate both fluorination and oxygenation of substrates such as ClF3, Cl2O, and ClO2. The reaction of solid FNO with excited fluorine was demonstrated at - 196 C with the production of NF3O. Similar procedures were used in reacting Cl2O and ClO2 with F2.
