DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-ENERGY METALIZED PROPELLANTS.

Abstract

The results of investigations of a gelled N2H4 fuel containing suspended Be (Beryllizine) are reported. A propellant criteria document and a tentative specification were prepared for the guidance of the propellant development. A prototype fuel (Beryllizine-21) was developed for use in the early phases of the engineering work and a standard procedure for the preparation of small batches of this formulation was developed. The compatibility of various types of commercially available Be powder with N2H4 was determined. Methods for improving the compatibility of these materials are under way. Engineering effort was devoted to design, fabrication, and assembly of equipment for ignition, combustion, and flow investigations. (Author)
