X-7A PROJECT RECOVERY SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR 1955,

Abstract

The purpose of the program is to develop a recovery system for the X-7A Ramjet Test Vehicle which will effect damage-free recovery from the most probable flight conditions up to the ultimate of Mach 2.0 at 25,000 ft. altitude. A new X-7A Ramjet Test Vehicle recovery system is in the process of development which will eliminate some of the inadequacies of the present system. This new system consists of a 67-inch diameter conical ribbon drag chute, a 13-foot diameter conical ribbon intermediate chute designed to operate at indicated airspeeds approaching 600 mph at 11,000 feet altitude and a 40-foot diameter conical ribbon final descent chute capable of operation at indicated airspeeds as high as 150 mph at 7,000 feet altitude.
