THRUST VECTOR CONTROL SYSTEMS,

Abstract

Recent surveys of hot gas TVC developments throughout industry and service organizations reveal a continued sustaining effort on developments showing future promise. Funding is being made available primarily through Edwards AFB and only minor efforts are being conducted using private industry research funding. Efforts showing the most promise are: (1) the dual grain motor under development at NOTS - China Lake, (2) the jet pipe valve being tested at Lockheed Propulsion Company, and (3) the Thiokol injector valve for use with submerged nozzles. It appears the first flight application using hot gas TVC will be associated with utilization of a submerged nozzle on an upper stage motor. (Author)
