ADVANCED PROPELLANT SYNTHESIS.

Abstract

The reaction of 2,2-bis(NF2)-1-fluoriminocycloheptane and NHF2 in fluorosulfonic acid yielded difluoroamino cyclo-octanes. Reaction conditions favorable for the preparation of alpha, alpha, alpha-tris(NF2) toluenes were determined. 1,2,2-Tris(NF2) hexane was prepared. A variety of a-difluoramino fluorimines were subjected to Beckman cleavage conditions to further define the scope of the reaction. A summary of the reaction of imines with NHF2 is presented. The reactions of CF2(OF)2 and OF2, with the (CF3)2CFO- anion were studied. Extensive cleavage of the perfluoroisopropoxide anion occurred. Two new complex nitrate anions were prepared: (CH3)4NI(NO3)2 and (CH3)4NBr(NO3)2. The reaction of butoxyfluoriminocyanide with the methanol to give fluoriminocarbonates was accelerated by bases and depressed by acids. Rates of acid addition to various epoxides relative to the rates of epoxide homopolymerization were studied. (Author)
