EVALUATION OF PROPELLANT INGREDIENTS AS HIGH-PERFORMANCE EXPLOSIVES WITH A NEW COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR CHAPMAN-JOUGUET PROPERTIES,

Abstract

A general, versatile program was developed to calculate the properties of the Chapman-Jouguet(CJ) state for one-dimensional ideal detonations, with the BKW equation of state. The program utilizes simplified input and can consider an arbitrary number and choice of condensed phases. Using calculated CJ pressure as a relative figure of merit, compositions with both standard and exotic propellant ingredients were evaluated as high performance explosives. None of the systems studied indicated any promise of performance advantages over current explosives. (Author)
