THERMAL STABILITY OF POLYNITROAROMATIC AMINES.

Abstract

The thermal decomposition of four polynitroaromatic amines alone and in trinitrobenzene solutions was monitored by two methods: (1) thin layer chromatographic, TLC, analysis, and (2) pressure increase due to gas evolution. The stability as measured by the TLC method of analysis was found to decrease in the following order: picramide > 1,3-diamino-2,4,6- trinitrobenzene >> 3-amino-2,2',4,4', 6,6'-hexanitrobiphenyl > 3,3'-diamino- 2,2',4, 4', 6,6'- hexanitro-biphenyl. In contrast, gas evolution was found not to be a reliable index of stability. (Author)
