FASTENERS COUNTERSUNK - LAP SHEAR JOINT HIGH TEMPERATURE ALLOWABLE LOADS FOR 4130 SHEET STEEL.

Abstract

The object of this test was to determine the effect of temperature upon the design allowable loads of lap shear joints utilizing various gages and heat treatments of 4130 sheet steel with three types of countersunk fasteners. The test data indicates that the design allowable loads of lap shear joints decrease with increase in joint temperature. There was insufficient data to predict reasonably statistical design values for the various combinations of sheet gage, heat treatment, fasteners and operating temperature. It is recommended that additional testing supplement the data already derived in order to provide sufficient information to establish the necessary design criteria. (Author)
