NUCLEOPHILIC ADDITIONS TO DOUBLE BONDS. I. ADDITIONS TO 1-SUBSTITUTED-3,3- DINITRO-1- PROPENES,
Abstract
Protonation of the carbanions -C(NO2)2CH CHY,Y = CO2CH3, CN, etc., in methanol or water yields the corresponding 4,4-dinitro-3-methoxy (or hydroxy) butyric acid derivative. NMR measurements showed the conjugate acids of the carbanions -C(NO2)2CH=CHY to have the structure HC(NO2)2CH=CHY. The synthetic potential of this reaction is discussed. (Author)
