INVESTIGATION OF HIGH-ENERGY OXIDIZER BINDERS FOR SOLID PROPELLANTS.

Abstract

The objectives of this program are the synthesis and evaluation of fluorine-containing oxidizer binders and the determination of the stability of these binders in the presence of light metal fuels. Further study of the reaction between OF2 and amines led to the conclusion that this approach to the synthesis of N-F compounds should be abandoned. An analytical procedure for the determination of F in organic compounds was set up, calibrated, and used to determine the F content of reaction products. A preliminary study of the reaction between mercuric fluoride and butyronitrile at 180-220 C was conducted. The crude reaction mixture showed little oxidizing power toward I(-), but acidity was developed in the reaction. (Author)
