EXPLORATORY EVALUATION OF HETEROGENEOUS ALUMINUM-HYDRAZINE FUELS WITH NITROGEN TETROXIDE.

Abstract

Three gels and one emulsion containing aluminum powder dispersed in hydrazine have been evaluated using nitrogen tetroxide as oxidizer. The gels included Alumizine 33G40, TX-6202, and Alumizine 43G32. The emulsion evaluated was manufactured in-house. All test firings were conducted in a small, uncooled liquid rocket engine operating at a nominal 300 psia chamber pressure and a thrust level of approximately 100 lbs. A discussion of the preparation of the aluminum-hydrazine emulsion is included.
