ADVANCED PROPELLANT SYNTHESIS.

Abstract

A detailed study has been made of the reaction of cesium perfluoro-n-propoxides and oxygen difluoride. Among the products were CF3OOOCF3, CF3CF2CF2OOOCF3 and CF3CF2CF2OOOCF2CF2CF3. Fluorination of perfluoro nitriles and imines in the presence of activated cesium fluoride produced the corresponding difluoramine in high yield. Orthocarbonates were prepared but efforts to convert these materials by means of N2F4 and HNF2 to plasticizers have not been successful. Diacetylfuroxan and difluoramine interact to produce mono- and tetrakis(difluoramino) adducts. Difluoramine and fuming sulfuric acid have been combined to give solutions of difluoramino sulfonic acid in sulfuric acid. These solutions have excellent storage properties. Carborane analogs of metallocenes and other carborane derivatives were prepared for evaluation as burning rate additives.
