LMH-1/HYDRAZINE HETEROGENEOUS PROPELLANT DEVELOPMENT.

Abstract

Individual components are being investigated in order to specify a combination of ingredients to prepare a LHM-1hydrazine heterogeneous propellant system that is stable, storable and has desirable rheological properties. Screening programs have been initiated to guide the delection of an emulsion or gel system. Emulsifiers with a HLB range of 3-4 gave the most stable hydrazine-decane W/O emulsions. Two imidizoline derivatives gave stable emulsion which show no gross incompatibility in the heterogeneous system. Several polyacrylamides and polyacrylates with high molecular weight and low crosslink density were formed to produce cohesive but non-adhesive hydrazine gels. Good physical properties and compatibility have been observed in heterogeneous gel systems. Compatibility of system ingredients are being studied to determine the effect of trace impurities.
